Dirk Willems reaches out to rescue his captor. This act, having taken place more than 400 years ago, has become a timeless symbol of Christian love reaching out to enemies. Hounded for his Anabaptist faith, Dirk had nearly eluded his pursuer when the latter broke through thin ice. In an expression of a life filled with love, Dirk turned and rescued his captor. Even then, he was taken, arrested and burned at the stake for his faith.
